Optimal Design of the Submerged Entry Nozzle for Thin Slab Continuous Casting Molds

For the purpose of increasing capacity an Angang Strip Production (ASP) continuous caster and surface quality a medium-thin slab with mold sections 150 × (1020–1540) mm2, present work investigated influences submerged entry nozzle (SEN) structure main operating parameters on flow characteristic temperature distribution in by physical numerical simulations. The results showed that typical “double-roll” central jet were formed through three-port SEN. With original SEN, mean wave height exceeded critical value 5.0 mm after casting speed was increased due to strong upper recirculation flow. By slight increment bottom port area side angle obviously decreased below 4.4 depressing increased. Meanwhile, slightly changed using optimized practical application breakout rate from 0.349% 0.107% defect 0.54% 0.19% while throughput reached new level 3.96 t/min.
